German Conjunctions & Connectors

German Conjunctions and Connectors: 45 with Examples

Connectors decide where the verb goes, which is why they matter so much in German. After weil, obwohl or dass the verb moves to the end of the clause. After deshalb or trotzdem it comes straight after the connector. Get this right and your sentences start to sound like German.

This deck has 45 connectors in three groups: coordinating, subordinating and adverbial. It skips und, aber and oder, which you likely know already, and goes on to doch, beziehungsweise and pairs like entweder ... oder, weder ... noch and sowohl ... als auch, plus sofern, indem and folglich. Every card has an example sentence and translation that shows the word order. Levels are mostly A2 to B2.
