German A2 Speaking Practice

German A2 Speaking Practice: 36 Exam Tasks with Model Answers

Knowing the phrases is not the same as saying them under pressure. This deck has 36 tasks in the format of the A2 speaking exam. In Teil 2 you talk for about a minute about your own life: your weekend, your flat, your job, your family, food, holidays and more, each with four keywords to cover. In Teil 3 you plan something with a partner: you get their suggestion and your own calendar, and have to say no politely, offer another time, agree and sum up.

Answer out loud first, then flip the card. The back has the task in English, a model answer of about fifty words at A2 level and its translation. Tap the speaker to hear the model answer and repeat after it. The answers use the grammar examiners listen for: weil and deshalb, the Perfekt, gern, lieber and am liebsten, and polite suggestions with könnten and wie wäre es.

  • Was machen Sie am Wochenende? (Freunde, Sport, Haushalt, Ausflüge)What do you do at the weekend? Talk about friends, sport, housework and trips.

At the weekend I sleep in first. On Saturdays I clean the flat and do the shopping. After that I often go jogging with friends. On Sundays I like to go on a trip, for example to a lake. Last weekend we went cycling. It was really nice, but also tiring.

  • Wo und wie wohnen Sie? (Wohnung, Zimmer, Nachbarn, Stadtteil)Where and how do you live? Talk about your flat, the rooms, your neighbours and your part of town.

I live with my husband in a flat on the third floor. The flat has three rooms and a small balcony. I like being in the kitchen best because it's big and bright. Our neighbours are very nice. The area is quiet, but unfortunately the supermarket is quite far away.

  • Was essen Sie gern? (Frühstück, Kochen, Restaurant, Lieblingsessen)What do you like to eat? Talk about breakfast, cooking, restaurants and your favourite food.

For breakfast I usually have bread with cheese and a coffee. At lunchtime I eat in the canteen. In the evening I like cooking, but only simple dishes. My favourite food is rice with vegetables and chicken. I don't go to restaurants very often because it's expensive.

  • Wo und wann kaufen Sie ein? (Supermarkt, Markt, online, Kleidung)Where and when do you go shopping? Talk about the supermarket, the market, shopping online and clothes.

I usually buy food on Saturday at the supermarket. I prefer to buy fruit and vegetables at the market because they're fresher there. I often buy clothes online; it's convenient. But I prefer to try on shoes in the shop. I don't like going shopping when it's crowded.

On holiday I like going to the seaside best. I usually travel with my family. We don't stay in a hotel but in a holiday flat, which is cheaper. Last summer we spent two weeks in Croatia. We swam every day and ate a lot of fish.

I went to school in my home town. The school wasn't far from our house. My favourite subject was maths, but I didn't like PE. We had a very nice English teacher. I'm still in touch with two friends from school today.

  • Warum und wie lernen Sie Deutsch? (Grund, Kurs, zu Hause, schwer oder leicht)Why and how are you learning German? Talk about your reason, your course, studying at home and what is hard or easy.

I'm learning German because I want to work in Germany. I do a course at the adult education centre twice a week. At home I learn words with an app every day. I find the grammar hard, especially the articles. But I enjoy speaking.
